In our last post, we gave you some tips for moving in the winter. However, there’s a lot more that goes into a winter move than we could cover in a single article. That’s why we’re continuing our list of tips in this post. Movers in Boston have a lot of experience dealing with winter weather during a move, so our team at Movers on the Go want to share what we’ve learned over the years with you.
Here are some more tips from our team of Boston movers to help you move into your new home in the winter.
Winterize Your Vehicles
Our moving truck will get your belongings from your old home to your new one, but you still have to get yourself and your family there. To ensure that your cars make it to your new home without incident, have them checked and winterized before you hit the road. The last thing you want to deal with in the middle of a move is a breakdown, especially when the weather is cold. Just in case, you should also keep an emergency kit in your car with blankets, flashlights, a first aid kit, and non-perishable snacks.
Clear Pathways
To make it easy and safe to move items in and out of the house, clear your driveways and walkways, both at your old home and new home. To avoid slipping on the ice, it’s also a good idea to put down salt or sand.
Check Your Heating System
Before moving in, check that your new home’s heating system is up and running. You don’t want to deal with a cold home or frozen pipes when you first arrive at your new home. If your new home is some distance from where you live now, get in touch with your realtor and ask about having someone check the heating for you.
Protect Your Floors
When both moving out and moving in, put down plastic sheets, old rugs, or cardboard to protect your floors from mud and moisture. The people moving into your old home do not want to arrive to damaged floors, and ruining the floors in your new home isn’t the first thing you want to do when moving in.
Unpack Strategically
Unpacking strategically is just as important as packing carefully. If you packed carefully in the first place, that will make unpacking much easier. Start with your essentials, such as bedding and kitchen supplies, so you can settle in comfortably and take your time unpacking everything else.
