Packing for a move is never an easy task, but some rooms are easier than others to pack up. Spare bedroom? No sweat. Linen closet full of extra towels you never use? Not a problem. But what about your kids’ bedrooms, your kitchen, or the family bathroom? Those are a little trickier because they are full of things you still have to use every day, even though you are getting ready to move. Luckily, you have an experienced team of Boston movers to help you.
Here are some tips from our Boston movers to help navigate packing up even the most difficult rooms in your house.
Bedrooms
Bedrooms are full of stuff that is precious to every member of your family, not to mention your clothes and other items you use every day. The trick is to pack the room in stages. If you’re moving in the summer, pack your winter clothes first. If you have a lot of books, pack them all up except for what you’re currently reading. When it comes to your kids’ toys, leave a few favorites out and pack up the rest.
Kitchen
The approach to packing the kitchen is similar but a little trickier because you have the additional challenge of dealing with food. The trick here is to work backwards. If you usually buy groceries a week at a time, don’t buy anything perishable on your last shopping trip before the move that will last more than a week. For non-perishable items, take stock of your pantry and decide what items are coming with you and what you can donate to a local shelter.
Packing appliances is a little easier. Appliances that you use every day, like the coffee maker, can stay out. Everything else you can pack up now. It’s also a good opportunity to go through all your kitchen items and pass on things you don’t use.
Bathrooms
We all have more toiletries and personal care items than we think. Sort through your medicine cabinet or the cabinet under your sink to remind yourself of what you actually have. If you find expired cosmetics or similar products, throw them away. Products that you want to keep but don’t use regularly you can pack up along with your extra towels. Leave out the items you use every day and one set of towels for everyone in your family.
